Pianist, composer from Minneapolis. weinbeck.com

Bio

Benny Weinbeck had an early introduction to music, growing up in a movie theatre, and learning the piano throughout his childhood. It was through this that Benny began to immerse himself in the styles of classical pianists from previous generations as well as the music of blues, boogie, and jazz, before forging his own musical path through performance and composition.

Today, Benny continues to work as an accomplished composer, producer and performer from his Minnesota-based studio. His unique approach to an age-old instrument, played contemplatively and intimately, has won him many fans around the world. Benny has gained notoriety for his relaxed and lively swinging style, as well. He also works with several synthesizers and software instruments and has been working with Logic, Reason and Ableton Live for several years composing for documentaries and film.

Following on from his first release of original compositions Make a Wish… in 1991, and 1992’s Reflection, 1995 brought Whispers, and Sweet Love in 1999. Sweet Love was followed by his solo piano release Solo Piano Standards.

2013 saw Benny return with his new album For Friends and Lovers, expressing his love for standards from the American Songbook. Benny also released his first music book in the same year, Peaceful Christmas.

Benny became the proud host of Fur Seal Studio, an impressive studio in the historical 1930s carriage house building near the Minneapolis Art Institute. In the course of a year he organized an ambitious overhaul of the entire space. Several partnerships with the American Composers Forum and others produced many music projects out of the amazing studio.

In 2015 Benny composed the music for the Feature Film Midnight Chronicles.

He also composed the music for the documentary “Solveig”, by Monde World Films.

In the next 5 years, He composed and produced and released, “For Friends and Lovers”, “Natural Piano, and “Sleep Baby” and “Solo Piano Standards volume 2” and other artist projects.

After spending the first two months of 2020 performing with his trio in Naples, Florida, he returned to Minneapolis for new musical adventures in 2020-2021.
