Bio

Scott Jones, a musician for 46 years, brings nearly 3 decades of experience in private music instruction to music students of all ages and at all levels.

Although guitar is his main instrument, he also plays drums, bass, keys, writes for all contemporary instruments, full orchestra, vocal ensembles, and percussion ensembles etc.
He plays, composes and teaches a wide variety of styles including: rock, pop, jazz, jazz fusion, blues, R&B, P&W/Gospel, funk. Scott has played as a full time musician since 1990 (having played guitar since 1980, drums since 1974). In his career, he’s played with dozens of bands, been a full time staff arranger and music director, writing and performing on a deadline for performance before 2,000+ people per week. He's transcribed, composed and arranged somewhere between 5,000-10,000 pieces of music in every style, performing close to 6,000 shows in various contexts since 1990.

Scott's C.D. Released in 2003 made the Grammy Finalists list for nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

In 2005, Scott was in the top 4 in the top 10 finalists for Guitar Player Magazine's contest, flown out to perform live at the Rock and a Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland before judges Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather and the editors of Guitar Player Magazine (3,000 audio submissions from all over the world were his initial competition).

Scott released his contemporary jazz album, "Remember" in March 2015 and his orchestral media cues have been licensed exclusively with Audiosparx since 2011
Scott released his latest album on November 15th, 2020 “Fictional Characters” with musicians Steve Hunt, (long time keyboardist for the late guitar legend Allan Holdsworth), as well as drummer Archibald Ligonnière and bassist Romain Labaye, (both of whom have been legendary guitarist Scott Henderson’s band on his recent tours and latest album “People Mover”).

The esteemed jazz publication “All About Jazz” gave Fictional Characters a four star review in their December 2020 issue. Reviews can be found at the Linktree link on this page.

Scott has been commissioned to write pieces for churches, orchestral arrangements for songwriter/artists, guest guitar solos on major releases.

Scott knows that each student is unique. He is committed to fostering that uniqueness while making sure they each have a broad understanding and applicable use of what goes into finding their own sound on their instrument. And then how to take those skills into a real world scenario. In the context of, and throughout the duration of lessons, Scott guides students in learning musical concepts and practicing musical skills such as: theory, harmony, improvisation, songwriting, composition, active listening, music technology, sight reading, ear training, orchestration and arranging of (everything from rock bands, jazz ensembles, to full orchestral music), music history, music production and public release, live performance (song preparation, equipment, etiquette, overcoming stage fright).

Scott encourages each student to embrace the music that they already enjoy and to be open to other styles of music.

Scott's personal and tailored approach to each student, no matter what their age, level, or ultimate goals, inspires students to become their best, have fun and stay motivated beyond the lesson environment.
