Bio
Lyndon M. Aguilar holds a Master of Arts in Music, Major in Theory degree from
the University of Santo Tomas Graduate School. He had previously earned a Bachelor of Music
degree from the UST Conservatory of Music. For both degrees, his adviser in his major field
(Music Theory) was Prof. Julie Ann A. Hallazgo. Aguilar studied piano with Prof. Marina
Escano and Morris Villarosa as an undergraduate in UST and jazz piano with Regalado Huble
Capucion and Elhmir Saison. He was also a member of the UST Coro Tomasino from 1990 to
1996 which won first prize in Concurso Canciones Espanolas Regionales and also ranked first in
the Regional Finals of the 1990m National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA).
Before commencing his musical training, he had already acquired a BS in Business
Administration degree from the National College of Business and Arts. He is also a product of
the Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong which he attended from first grade to high
school.
Currently he teaches music theory, jazz courses and music technology courses at the UST
Conservatory of Music; he was also a faculty member of the SPU Manila College of Music for
13 years (1996-2009). He likewise taught at the Yamaha School of Music in Makati (1996-
2008) and at the Centro Escolar University Conservatory of Music (2000-2003).
Aguilar has pursued his passion for jazz as pianist of varied ensembles ranging from the UST
Jazz Band to smaller groups such as the “Jazz-T-Five”, “Crackerjazz Trio”, the Swingshift Jazz
Trio, Harald Hüyssen Jazz Trio and LOWCAL among others, in a considerable number of
concerts held at the BDO(PCI) Bank Auditorium in Makati, at CCP, at Philamlife Auditorium,
Goethe Institut Makati, Paco Park Presents and Macao International Jazz & Blues Festival last
October 2014. Pop-wise, he has served as a session keyboard player for Pilita Corales as well as
for various artists of Boy Abunda’s Backroom Productions
His note-for-note transcription and analysis of Grammy Awards winner Billy Childs’ solo “Joy
Spring” from Freddie Hubbard’s 1982 album Born to Be Blue was published in the American
jazz magazine Downbeat in September 2005. He subsequently had a happy meeting with Childs
when the latter arrived in the country to perform in 2007. He has been invited to speak on Music
and Computers by the Philippine Society for Music Education; he has also been speaker and
trainer in pop music during conferences sponsored by the Department of Education, Culture and
Sports. His composition, Shakespeare and Goethe- The World Collapses, a commissioned work,
was presented at Francisco Santiago Hall, BDO (PCI) Tower in 2004. Their Band, Lowcal, was
one of the 12 finalists to the 2014 Cotai Jazz and Blues Festival which was shortlisted from over
180 applications from 44 countries around the world. The latter group also played in the 2017
Valentine Concert of Rex Smith. Amidst all activites, he still finds the time to serve as
keyboardist, composer and arranger for his parish choir.
