In this sound bite series I create short chord progressions / melodic motifs over common II-V-I's chord changes.
There is no specific rule I follow aside from creating space and making use of as much sustain as possible. The guitar doesn't naturally sustain very well, but with the use of some of these techniques we can improve on it.
Expect strings ringing, harmonics played, tension and release always present, full use of the fingerboard, and unusual chord shapes and extensions.
