This primer course on gospel guitar is broken into two parts: First is beginner repertoire, featuring old standards that you’ll hear at any church or congregation. The second is more technical, and focuses on chord melody and licks that you can use to spice up your accompaniment.
The songs covered in the beginning repertoire are “I Need Thee,” “Yes Lord,” “Pass Me Not” and “I Know the Lord Will Make a Way.” I’ll teach you how to play these with basic barre chords that any new guitarist should know.
After that, I’ll take you through a chord melody I’ve put together of “Amazing Grace” which uses jazz chords and is a bit more technical. After that, we’ll talk about licks and fills.
