•The original inspiration for this etude is a lick by Django Reinhardt on his recording of "Ou Es-Tu, Mon Amour". You can hear it around a minute into the track.
•He frequently uses this idea over Dominant 7th chords, including in his famous recording of "All Of Me".
•I think of it as diagonally arpeggiating a Dominant 7th using a flat 9 and other chromatic passing tones.
• This example is over a V7/V to V7 progression. Basically a Dominant 7th chord resolving to another Dominant 7th that is a 5th below, or a 4th above. (Think B section of Rhythm Changes).
•You can break up this lick in two parts, as separate Dominant 7th licks, or when going from V7/V to V7, like the E7 to A7 sections in "All Of Me", you can use the entire idea over two separate chords.
