Time signatures

Here’s how to edit time signatures using the Soundslice editor.

Choosing the bar

The easiest way to change a time signature is to click the time signature directly in your notation.

If, however, you want to change the time signature for a bar in the middle of a system (where there’s no existing time signature to click), select any of the notes or rests in that bar, then:

• In editor’s top panel, open the “Bar” section and click the time signature icon .
• Or: Search the editor for “Change time signature.”

Setting the time signature

Once you’ve done the above, this will open the time signature screen:

Here, you can enter the new time signature. We support three options:

• A numeric time signature, such as 4/4, 3/4 or 12/8.
• The “common time” symbol:
• The “cut time” symbol:

You can also specify whether the time signature should apply only to the current bar vs. all subsequent bars.

Hiding time signatures

Sometimes it’s useful to hide the time signature entirely. You can do this by editing the time signature and checking the “Don’t display time signature” checkbox.

Does Soundslice “rebar” notation when a time signature is changed?

No, we will not move notation across bars. If a note or rest is in bar 3, it will remain in bar 3. Depending on the time signature change you’ve made, you might start seeing red staff lines.

Does Soundslice support multiple instruments having different simultaneous time signatures?

Alas, no, we don’t support this (relatively uncommon) notation yet.

Does Soundslice support compound time signatures (with plus signs in them)?

No, not yet. You’ll just need to use a normal time signature — e.g., adding the numbers together.
