The editor search feature
Our editor’s powerful search feature lets you quickly find commands and apply them to your current selection.
You can search every type of notation we support — hundreds of individual commands. Often it’s faster to do a search than to find the appropriate icon in our top panel.
Doing a search
The search bar is always visible, at the top of the left panel:
To do a search, click in the search box or hit Control K (⌘ K on a Mac). We recommend memorizing this keyboard shortcut — it means you can do a lot of notating without your fingers leaving your keyboard!
As you type into the search box, you’ll see results right away.
We’ll automatically select the first search result. You can move up/down through the results with the up and down arrows on your keyboard.
Hit Enter on your keyboard to apply the selected command to your selected notes/rests. Fast and easy!
Keyboard shortcuts in search results
For each search result, we’ll display the currently assigned keyboard shortcut for that command (if applicable). This appears just to the right of each result:
If you’ve customized your keyboard shortcuts, your customizations will indeed be shown in search results. Nice!
Grayed out search results
You’ll notice that sometimes search results are grayed out:
A search result will be grayed out if it cannot be applied to the currently selected notes/rests. In the above example, we’ve selected a rest, and “Append interval 2nd” doesn’t make sense in this context — so that result is grayed out.
Closing the search
To close the search, click the “X” button next to the search term, or just hit Escape on your keyboard.
