Splitting instruments by voice
Let’s say you’ve imported some choral music into Soundslice, and it has the Soprano and Alto parts written in two voices on a single staff:
Some of our player’s practice features — such as showing/hiding parts or muting/soloing individual instruments — require that each instrument is on its own staff. So if you want to solo the Soprano part, you’ll need to make it its own instrument, instead of being smooshed together with the Alto part.
For this situation, our editor has a “Split track by voices” command. This splits an instrument into multiple instruments, one instrument per voice.
Usage
In our editor, open the Instruments panel by clicking “Instruments” toward the top of the page:
Find the instrument you want to split, and click the button to the right. Then select “Split track by voices”:
We’ll instantly create new instruments in your slice: one instrument for each voice that is used in the original instrument.
The original instrument will still be there. You can delete it if you’d like.
Example
Before splitting:
After splitting:
Once the instrument has been split, you’ll immediately be able to focus on the new instruments in the player settings menu:
The newly created instruments will have the same name as the original instrument, plus “(1)” or “(2)” at the end. Feel free to rename the instruments.
Can I use this with non-vocal music?
Yes, this feature works with any kind of music.
