Improvements to PDF/image scanning
July 27, 2023
We’ve made some major quality-of-life improvements for those of you using our new PDF/image importer.
First: you know how we show the original image in our editor after you upload? That image is now interactive and fully in sync with the Soundslice version of your music.
This means:
- You can click on any note/rest to go to that moment in the audio. Yes, it works with synced video/MP3 as well.
- If you navigate via the top (Soundslice-rendered) version of the music, we’ll automatically navigate the image.
- During playback, you’ll see a playhead over the image, and it’ll automatically scroll as needed.
You can even drag across your original image to create a loop (!):
Our goal here is to make it easier to cross-reference the original image with the Soundslice version. Previously it was easy to lose your place in the image, especially during playback.
These new features are available for any slice that you’ve created via our PDF/image importer, even older ones.
Note that this is limited to our editor. As before, for any slice that was created via our PDF/image importer, there’s no way to use the original image outside the scope of editing. If you’d be interested in using the original image as the primary interface for your slice (e.g., when practicing, teaching, publishing or sharing), let us know.
Ability to expand images in review questions
As you probably know, after you upload a PDF or image to our system, we ask you questions about the bits we weren’t 100% certain about:
Sometimes the displayed image doesn’t quite give you enough context to answer the question. For example, in the image above, it would be helpful to see more of the music.
To help with this, we’ve added a zoom button in the lower right corner of the image. Click that, and we’ll make the image bigger:
That provides much more context.
And a related Pro Tip: you can always click and drag on the image to move it around. That’s something we’ve supported since day one, but from time to time we hear from users who didn’t know that was possible.
Clearer interface for selecting notes in tuplets
For the “Select all of the notes and rests in this tuplet” review question, we’ve made the interface a bit clearer. Previously the distinction between selected and unselected notes was a bit too subtle:
Now, there’s much more contrast:
